Questions

How do I calculate the cost of a recipe?

For each ingredient, divide what you paid for the pack by the pack size, then multiply by the amount the recipe uses. Add the ingredients together for the batch cost, and divide by the number of servings or pieces for the cost of each.

Can I measure ingredients in cups when I buy them by weight?

Yes. Choose cups for the amount used and enter what one cup of that ingredient weighs. Weigh a cup once or check the pack. The calculator never guesses cup weights, because a cup of flour and a cup of sugar weigh different amounts.

Does the recipe cost include my time?

No. This calculator costs ingredients only. To add your working time, packaging and a profit margin, use the cake pricing calculator.

Why don’t the ingredient costs add up exactly to the batch cost?

Each ingredient’s cost is rounded to the cent for display, but the batch cost comes from the exact amounts and is rounded once. The two can differ by a few cents.

Can I use my own currency?

Yes. Choose from 31 currencies, including US dollars, pounds, euros and South African rand. Changing the currency does not convert the amounts you entered.

Is it free, and does it save my entries?

It is free, with no signup. The calculator runs in your browser. Bakehop does not save or receive your entries, and they clear when you leave the page. To save your ingredients, recipes and prices and turn them into quote PDFs, start a free trial of Bakehop.
